Daniel O’Donnell Leads Tributes to Kevin Prendergast Following His Passing

The country music world is mourning the loss of one of its beloved figures, Kevin Prendergast, whose death was announced by his family on Monday. Daniel O’Donnell, a prominent figure in the Irish country music scene, was among the first to express his sorrow, paying tribute to the late singer and songwriter.

Daniel, who had shared many stages with Kevin throughout the years, described him as “a true gentleman.” He shared his condolences with Kevin’s family, saying, “It is with sadness today that I learned of the passing of Kevin Prendergast. Through the years Kevin and I were on many shows together. He was a true gentleman. My sympathy to his family at this sad time. Rest in Peace Kevin.”

Kevin, who had emigrated from Ireland to Manchester in the 1960s, combined his construction job with performing in Irish clubs and pubs at night. His unique talent and contributions to the Irish country music genre are remembered through his hits such as “Blacksod Bay,” “My Old Home in Mayo,” “My Cottage by the Sea,” and “Where the River Shannon Flows.” His songs, filled with love for his Irish heritage, continue to resonate with fans and fellow musicians.

Daniel’s sister, Margo O’Donnell, also shared her heartfelt condolences, saying, “It is with great sadness that I have just heard of the passing of Kevin Prendergast. I have had the pleasure of knowing Kevin for a long, long time. My sympathies go out to all his family… he will be sadly missed.”

Kevin’s passing marks a significant loss not just for his family, but for the entire Irish country music community. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Marian and Eileen, as well as his nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and a large circle of friends who now mourn his loss.

The arrangements for Kevin’s funeral have been shared with the public, and his remains will repose at Donnellan’s Funeral Home, Clare Street, Ballyhaunis, on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral will take place on Friday at St. Mary’s Church, Logboy, at noon, with burial afterwards at Tulrahan Cemetery.

The country music world will certainly feel the void left by Kevin Prendergast, but his legacy through his music will continue to touch lives for years to come. Daniel O’Donnell and many others in the industry have lost a dear friend and collaborator, but Kevin’s contributions to Irish music will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace.
