Daniel O’Donnell has spoken warmly about his two decades of marriage to wife Majella, calling their relationship a blessing and revealing that the secret to their lasting bond is simply having fun together. The Donegal-born singer, who turns 62 in December, marked his 20th wedding anniversary earlier this year with a quiet celebration at their home, surrounded by close family and friends. “We have a lot of fun together, the two of us, we genuinely have a lot of fun,” Daniel told the Irish Daily Mirror. “We were blessed to have met each other when we did.”
Their meeting, he recalled, was intertwined with Majella’s family. Following the recent passing of her mother Marion, Daniel fondly remembered how his late mother-in-law and father-in-law, Tom, had a hand in bringing them together.
“I knew Tom and Marion before I met Majella,” he explained. “I was friendly with them and used to go out with them in Tenerife. Then one night, I just met Majella at their bar.”
Over the years, Daniel and Majella have become one of Ireland’s most recognised couples, beloved not only for their personal warmth but also for their shared television ventures, including the hit series Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip. However, fans hoping for a revival of the show may be disappointed. “We almost did it one last year, we were almost persuaded,” Daniel admitted, “but then we thought, maybe we’ve done enough. It was very successful and people enjoyed it, but sometimes maybe you can overdo things.”
The pair have also ruled out a joint chat show, with Daniel joking about the potential chaos. “Ah God no, we’d be arguing all the time,” he laughed. “The poor person we’d be interviewing — we’d be disagreeing and they wouldn’t get a look in.”
For now, Daniel’s focus remains firmly on music. He has just released his latest album, How Lucky I Must Be, which brings him close to the milestone of 50 albums in his career. The record, available in a special limited signed edition with a concert DVD, reflects his enduring passion for performing — something he says has never diminished, especially at home. “I enjoy being on the stage, I suppose in Ireland especially, it has never waned,” he said.
With a busy schedule ahead, Daniel is preparing for an extensive run of shows that will take him across Ireland, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. Tickets for his 2024 performances are set to go on sale at the beginning of December, promising fans yet another chance to see one of Ireland’s most enduring entertainers in action.
The love story between Daniel and Majella — rooted in friendship, family ties, and mutual respect — continues to resonate with audiences. And while the couple may be stepping back from shared television projects, their bond remains at the heart of Daniel’s life, both on and off the stage.
