Daniel & Majella’s B&B Road Trip Ends on a High Note in Beloved Donegal
After several seasons of heartfelt hospitality, laughter, and discovery across Ireland, Daniel & Majella’s B&B Road Trip came to an emotional and joyful conclusion — fittingly in Donegal, Daniel O’Donnell’s cherished home county. The final stop of their journey brought the beloved singer and his wife Majella to The Glen House in Clonmany, Inishowen, where they were welcomed with warmth, nostalgia, and a bit of playful chaos.
As Daniel opened his last set of travel instructions and saw that the destination was Donegal, he couldn’t contain his glee. Letting out a joyful roar, he burst into song, chanting, “Here we go, here we go, here we go,” and declaring, “Try as I might, there was no hiding my excitement as we head home to Donegal for our final stop.”
The couple’s arrival at the 250-year-old Glen House was anything but dry — literally. Earlier that day, Daniel and Majella had made a stop at Glenevin Waterfall, a scenic site near Clonmany known for its beauty and local folklore. Legend has it that the pool at the base of the falls possesses magical healing powers and boosts fertility. Majella dismissed the idea with a laugh, calling it “a local myth,” to which Daniel cheekily responded, “I’m as fit as a fiddle – but it might be good for you.”
The teasing turned physical when Daniel started a water fight, which quickly escalated into a full soaking match, leaving the couple drenched but grinning. Their spirits were lifted again by the warm welcome of Sonia McGonigle, the Glen House’s owner, and her enthusiastic staff, all devoted fans of the musical couple.
As part of their Donegal experience, Sonia organized a horseback ride along Tullagh Strand, a stretch of beach that holds deep sentimental meaning for Daniel. “Where better to enjoy the last afternoon of our trip than on my Donegal shore at Tullagh Bay Beach,” he reflected, visibly moved by the moment.
The Glen House also features a charming craft shop that exclusively showcases goods made in Inishowen, further underlining the pride and creativity of the region. “I am a proud Donegal woman,” said Sonia. “There is no county like it. I love it.”
Before arriving in Inishowen, Daniel and Majella had stayed at Sands B&B in Rostrevor, Co Down, hosted by Anne Sands of the famous Sands Family folk group and her husband John. The stop had offered its own mix of music and heartfelt conversation, but it was clear that Donegal held a special place in the couple’s hearts.
With the show drawing to a close in such a personal and meaningful location, the final episode was more than a travelogue — it was a homecoming. It celebrated not only the landscapes and lodgings of Ireland, but also the enduring love between Daniel and Majella, and the deep connections they’ve made along the way.
The journey may be ending, but the memories — and the laughter — will stay with fans for a long time to come.
