Daniel O’Donnell had a lighthearted moment on Ireland AM this Monday, leaving viewers in stitches after an accidental on-air blunder. The 60-year-old country music legend was setting up for a remote interview when his wife Majella was inadvertently caught in the frame—still in bed!
As the Ireland AM presenters, Muireann O’Connell and Tommy Bowe, returned from the ad break, they explained that Daniel had been struggling to position his camera for the interview. Unfortunately, in the process, he managed to get his wife in the shot as she was peacefully sleeping in their hotel room.
Muireann joked, “We were wondering where he was, and then, oh, that’s the bed, it’s not made. The next thing, Majella just popped up!” The hilarious moment caused an immediate burst of laughter among the hosts, with Muireann adding, “Daniel, we just want to apologise for making Majella move to the other side of the bed. We know she was a bit annoyed with us.”
However, Daniel quickly reassured them, saying, “Ah, she wasn’t annoyed at all.” The hosts then cheekily asked if Majella had forgiven them for interrupting her sleep, to which Majella called out from the background, “Yes.”
Keeping the fun going, Daniel then gave viewers an impromptu room tour by turning the camera towards his wife, who was still comfortably lying in bed. His playful antics had Muireann and Tommy in hysterics as Daniel laughed and said, “Oh god, it’s a sight!”
Tommy Bowe, ever the mischievous one, joked, “You’re going to be in some trouble,” before the conversation shifted to more relaxed topics.
When he’s not causing mayhem during interviews, Daniel shared that he’s looking forward to a more laid-back summer with his family. “In July, I’m taking off to Tenerife for two weeks with them. Olivia was there when she was small, but it’s the first time they’re going to be there. I’m looking forward to the beach and all that kind of thing. It’s going to be great,” he revealed.
Daniel also shared a sweet and surprising story about his first grandchild, Olivia, who calls him “Gaga.” “Olivia called me Gaga from the very beginning and nobody told her to do that because it’s not a very common grandparent name,” Daniel explained. “The strangest thing of all is that my father’s mother, all of the grandchildren called her Gaga.”
Daniel added that he loves the affectionate nickname, saying, “It’s kind of affectionate too and of course, now Archie does now too,” clearly touched by the connection with his grandchildren.
