Irish music legend Daniel O’Donnell has revealed he’s become the “designated babysitter” for his grandchildren, even as he contemplates a return to television with a new travel series on RTÉ.

The beloved 62-year-old singer, originally from Donegal, shared the heartwarming update in a recent interview, saying that life as a grandfather has brought him a new kind of joy. “I’m the go-to babysitter these days,” he laughed. “And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Despite his newfound family role, Daniel hasn’t ruled out returning to the screen. He confirmed he is in early talks with RTÉ to develop a new travel-focused series that could see him exploring towns, communities, and hidden gems across Ireland — and perhaps even abroad.

“I really enjoy meeting people and discovering new places,” O’Donnell said. “If we can work out a schedule that allows me to still spend time with my family, then I’d love to do it.”

This wouldn’t be his first time fronting a hit travel show. O’Donnell previously co-starred with his wife, Majella, in the hugely popular Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip, which aired on RTÉ and won the hearts of audiences with its genuine charm, humor, and heartwarming encounters with locals. The show was praised for its authenticity and showcased a different side of the singer beyond the stage.

It puts everything into perspective.”
