Tim McGraw Cancels Colorado Concert Due to Back Surgery Recovery, Cross Canadian Ragweed to Fill In
Tim McGraw, the country music superstar, has been forced to cancel his upcoming performance at the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Last Cowboy Standing event in Fort Collins, Colorado, scheduled for July 21. The singer is currently recovering from back surgery and, as a result, will not be able to take the stage. The PBR event organizers, however, have confirmed that country group Cross Canadian Ragweed will step in to open the show in McGraw’s place.
A statement from PBR CEO Sean Gleason shared the news on Monday, June 23, expressing excitement about Cross Canadian Ragweed’s return to the stage. “Cross Canadian Ragweed will step in for Tim McGraw as he recovers from back surgery to open the Last Cowboy Standing Show on July 21 in Fort Collins—and we couldn’t be more thrilled,” Gleason said. “The band is back together and ready to bring the house down in an unforgettable night of world-class music and the greatest bull riding on earth.”
While fans were hoping to see McGraw perform at the event, PBR expressed its support for the singer’s recovery. “We’re sending our very best to Tim for a quick recovery and hope to see him at a future PBR event.”
Despite McGraw’s absence, another artist, Jon Pardi, is still scheduled to perform on July 22, as per the event’s concert poster. McGraw’s representative has not issued a comment regarding his health, but a joint statement from Colorado State University and PBR confirmed that the surgery was recent.
Fans who were looking forward to seeing McGraw perform have been given the option to request a full refund by contacting the Rams Ticket Office at 970-491-7267 or filling out a refund request form online. The organizers apologized for the inconvenience and wished McGraw the best in his recovery.
McGraw’s back surgery comes after a challenging period for the singer. In an update shared on Tracy Lawrence’s TL’s Road House podcast in May, McGraw reflected on the physical toll his body has endured in recent years, including double knee replacements, multiple back surgeries, a torn rotator cuff, and a ruptured disc. He candidly admitted, “There were times this year that I thought this might be it. This might be time to hang it up.”
Despite these health setbacks, McGraw continues to remain active, albeit with a more cautious approach. “I can’t move quickly, there’s no turning real quick to do something,” he explained. “Everything has to be very intentional; everything that I do has to be very methodical.” To manage his recovery, McGraw incorporates cold plunges, infrared saunas, and massages into his routine.
The announcement of his surgery follows his exit from an untitled Netflix rodeo series earlier this year due to his health issues. McGraw’s latest album, Standing Room Only, was released in August 2023, and he recently starred in the Paramount+ series 1883, a prequel to the hit show Yellowstone.
McGraw’s dedication to his health and career is evident, and fans are wishing him a speedy recovery as he continues to overcome the challenges of aging and maintain his place as one of country music’s most enduring stars.
