Daniel O’Donnell to Take a Break from Touring to “Recharge Batteries” After Health Challenges
At 63, country music legend Daniel O’Donnell has announced that he will take a much-needed break from his busy touring schedule in 2025 to recharge and address ongoing health concerns. The singer, known for his powerful voice and commitment to his fans, shared that he has been suffering from chest issues in recent years, which have been aggravated by the demands of his extensive touring schedule. Despite not facing a serious illness, Daniel explained that singing with these chest problems has become more difficult.
In an interview with the Sunday World, Daniel clarified that his decision to step back from touring is not due to severe health issues, but rather a need to “recharge his batteries” and assess what will work best for his future. “I’ve been fine doing recent shows, and I intend to complete all shows booked up to the end of this year. I’m looking forward to them, but I just felt I needed to take a break and recharge my batteries,” Daniel said.
The beloved singer reassured fans that he would complete his scheduled performances for the remainder of 2025, including shows in Ireland, the UK, and America, but he needed to slow down moving forward. “For the past number of years, I’ve had frequent chest issues, which wouldn’t have bothered me if I wasn’t singing,” he revealed. “Loads of people have what I have, and it doesn’t bother them one bit. I function absolutely perfectly with the issues as well, and I’m otherwise in perfect health. But because I’m singing, it’s more difficult with those problems.”
Although Daniel has no intention of retiring, he explained that the non-stop touring has begun to take its toll. He wants to take time to evaluate how to manage his career moving forward. “I haven’t made this decision because of ill-health or anything, it’s because I just feel that the continuous touring is not suiting me now and I need to figure out what to do,” Daniel explained. “I’ll figure out what works best for me doing the shows. But I’m certainly not retiring.”
