Daniel O’Donnell Pays Tribute to Majella’s Late Mother, Marion Roche
September 2023 — Daniel O’Donnell has paid a heartfelt tribute to his mother-in-law, Marion Roche, following her passing this week. Majella O’Donnell, Daniel’s wife, confirmed the sad news that her mother had died at St Mary’s Nursing Home in Galway on Monday night, surrounded by her family.
In a touching message shared on social media, Daniel expressed his grief and gratitude for the care Marion received in her final days. “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Majella’s mother, Marion,” he wrote.
“Marion died last night surrounded by her family in St Mary’s nursing home in Galway. We will be forever grateful to the wonderful staff of St Mary’s for the great care Marion received since going to live there and especially in her final days.”Daniel continued, thanking the staff at Galway University Hospital for their support during Marion’s recent stay.
“The care and compassion shown to Marion and indeed her family was second to none,” he wrote.Describing Marion as a “beautiful person,” Daniel fondly remembered how many who met her referred to her as “A Lady.” He shared that he felt “blessed” to have had her as a mother-in-law and that she would be greatly missed by her family and friends. “She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. May she rest in peace,” he concluded.
Many of Daniel’s colleagues and friends from the music world have expressed their condolences following the news of Marion’s passing. Singer Mairead Carlin shared her sympathy, writing, “So sorry to hear this Daniel.
Sending love and prayers to you all x.” Lee Matthews, another musician, added, “Sorry to hear the sad news Daniel. Condolences to Majella and all the family.”Daniel’s connection with Marion and her family goes back many years. It was actually Marion and her late husband, Tom, who introduced Daniel to Majella when they owned a bar in Mallorca. Tom passed away in 2013, leaving behind many fond memories of their close-knit family life.
