Daniel O’Donnell Announces New Album ‘Now and Then’, Set for Release This October
Beloved Irish singer Daniel O’Donnell is set to return to the spotlight this autumn with the release of his brand-new album, Now and Then, due out in October 2025. With a career spanning over four decades, O’Donnell remains one of the most cherished voices in country and easy-listening music, and this latest project is a deeply personal tribute to the music that shaped him.
Now and Then is more than just a new album — it’s a reflection of O’Donnell’s journey as a performer and a celebration of the songs that have inspired him through the years. Describing the record as “the best of everything I love to sing,” O’Donnell brings together 14 carefully curated tracks, blending original compositions, country classics, and a few nostalgic surprises. With his signature warmth and sincerity, the Donegal native continues to offer comfort and familiarity to fans across generations.
Among the standout moments on the album is O’Donnell’s long-awaited recording of “Take Me Home, Country Roads”, the timeless John Denver classic that has remained a staple in his live shows. Though the song has seen many covers over the years — from Olivia Newton-John to Lana Del Rey — this will be the first time O’Donnell’s version appears on a studio release.
The album also features renditions of beloved country hits, including Don Williams’ “You’re My Best Friend” and Keith Whitley’s “When You Say Nothing at All”, the latter a poignant favorite among country music fans. O’Donnell also revisits an unexpected pop gem — Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called to Say I Love You” — a track that holds a special place in his heart. “When it came on the radio, it brought me back to 1984,” he shared. “I thought, I love singing along with it — I should really get it on an album.”
Growing up in County Donegal, O’Donnell was surrounded by the rich sounds of American country music and Irish ballads. Influenced by legends like Charley Pride, Loretta Lynn, and Tammy Wynette, as well as Irish icons such as Dolores Keane, Philomena Begley, and his sister Margo, Daniel developed a deep appreciation for storytelling through song — a trait that remains central to his work today.
Over the course of his illustrious career, Daniel O’Donnell has achieved 12 gold-selling albums, 11 Top 30 singles, and sold over 10 million albums worldwide. Yet, his approach remains humble and grounded, always putting his audience first.
To celebrate the launch of Now and Then, O’Donnell will embark on a UK tour from 9th to 15th October, with scheduled performances in Bridlington, Stockport, Croydon, Llandudno, Newcastle, and Edinburgh. These concerts will not only showcase songs from the new album but will also serve as a farewell of sorts — Daniel has announced that he will be taking a well-earned sabbatical in 2026, making this tour an especially meaningful opportunity for longtime fans to see him live.
The album will be available in multiple formats: standard CD, vinyl picture disc, and a special 2-CD set. The bonus disc includes duets and collaborative performances with artists such as Dominic Kirwan, Charley Pride, Loretta Lynn, Derek Ryan, Mary Duff, and more — a fitting nod to the many friendships and musical connections Daniel has built throughout his remarkable career.
For fans old and new, Now and Then offers a heartfelt musical journey through memory, tradition, and the timeless voice of Daniel O’Donnell — a voice that continues to bring comfort, joy, and familiarity to listeners around the world.
