Daniel O’Donnell Opens Up on Marriage, Music, and the Blessings of Life with Wife Majella
Daniel O’Donnell, one of Ireland’s most cherished entertainers, has spoken candidly about his marriage to wife Majella, describing their 20 years together as a blessing. As the couple quietly marked their milestone anniversary earlier this year at their Donegal home, the singer reflected on the simple but profound secret that has kept their relationship strong: laughter, companionship, and genuine joy in each other’s company.
Speaking to the Irish Daily Mirror, Daniel said: “We have a lot of fun together, the two of us, we genuinely have a lot of fun, and we were blessed to have met each other when we did.” For the star, who turns 62 in December, the timing of their meeting was everything.
The singer also reflected on the role Majella’s late mother, Marion, played in their story. Marion, who passed away last month, was instrumental in bringing them together. “I knew Tom and Marion [Majella’s parents] before I met Majella,” Daniel explained. “I was friendly with them and used to go out with them in Tenerife, and then I just met Majella at their bar one night.” That chance encounter sparked a partnership that would grow into one of Ireland’s most beloved celebrity marriages.
Over the years, Daniel and Majella have become household names not only for their marriage but also for their on-screen chemistry. Their RTE series Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip captured the warmth and humor of their relationship, drawing fans across Ireland and abroad. However, Daniel confirmed that there are no plans to revive the show. “We almost did it one last year, we were almost persuaded, but then we thought, maybe we’ve done enough,” he admitted. “It was very successful and people enjoyed it, but sometimes maybe you can overdo things.”
When asked if they might consider hosting a husband-and-wife chat show, Daniel laughed off the suggestion. “Ah God no, we’d be arguing all the time. The poor person we’d be interviewing wouldn’t get a look in,” he joked, showing once again the humor that has always endeared him to fans.
Even as he treasures his personal life, Daniel remains deeply committed to his music career. With nearly 50 albums to his name, he has just released his latest record, How Lucky I Must Be, which he says reflects the gratitude he feels for both his career and his life. His schedule remains busy, with tours planned across the US, Australia, and New Zealand. Yet for Daniel, performing at home remains uniquely special. “I enjoy being on the stage,” he said. “I suppose in Ireland especially, it has never waned.”
As Daniel balances his family life with a career that continues to thrive after four decades, his reflections reveal a man grounded in gratitude. Whether speaking about the joy of making music or the laughter he shares with Majella, the Donegal singer’s words carry the same warmth that has made him a national treasure.
For fans, his story is more than just about songs and concerts — it is about the enduring strength of love, the importance of timing, and the quiet blessings found in life’s simplest joys.
