HEARTBREAKING NEWS: Daniel O’Donnell Grieves the Sudden Passing of His Beloved Sister Kathleen — A Family Tragedy That Leaves Fans Shocked and Sharing His Pain

The world of Irish music has been struck by sadness as Daniel O’Donnell is left heartbroken following the sudden death of his sister, Kathleen Doogan (née O’Donnell). Kathleen passed away unexpectedly at her home in Kincasslagh, Donegal, leaving her family and community in deep mourning.

Kathleen is survived by her husband John, their sons John Francis and Daniel, and daughters Tricia and Fiona. She was also the sister of Margo, Jamesie, Daniel, and John Bosco O’Donnell. Known locally as a warm and engaging figure, Kathleen played an important role in community life. Alongside her husband, she once ran the Viking House Hotel in Kincasslagh, a property originally purchased by her world-renowned brother Daniel, and the hotel became a gathering place for locals and visitors alike.

Those close to the family say Daniel shared a particularly deep bond with Kathleen. “Daniel is heartbroken. Himself and Kathleen were close in age and got on very well. Kathleen wasn’t ill at all and she passed away suddenly at her home,” a family friend shared. The shock of her passing has left the O’Donnell family and their community reeling.

Kathleen’s remains will repose at her home in Kincasslagh from noon today, with the Rosary to be recited for two nights at 9 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will take place on Monday at 11 a.m. in St Mary’s Church, Kincasslagh, followed by interment in Belcruit Cemetery.

The loss has deeply shaken not only the O’Donnell family but also the many friends and admirers who have long held the family in affection. For Daniel, who has carried Ireland’s musical spirit around the world, this personal sorrow comes as a reminder that even those who bring comfort to millions are not immune to grief.

As the community gathers to pay its respects, Kathleen will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend — a woman whose life was woven tightly with the family and place she loved.
