Daniel O’Donnell Shuts Down Health Scare Rumours, Confirms He’s in Good Shape and Taking a Touring Break in 2026
Irish country music icon Daniel O’Donnell has spoken out to dismiss swirling rumours about his health, firmly denying false claims that he is seriously ill or has been hospitalized. The 62-year-old singer appeared on The Six O’Clock Show to clarify the situation after scammers began targeting fans on social media, spreading misleading information about his well-being.
“There are so many things, primarily on Facebook, but not just about me,” Daniel said, referencing manipulated images and fake posts falsely depicting him as gravely ill. “I have seen so many people, different celebrities, in [hospital] bed with tubes and they are dying,” he added, emphasizing how these scams have grown more elaborate and dangerous.
The star reassured fans that while he has experienced mild health issues, including allergies and chest infections, there is no serious illness to be concerned about. “Now, I am taking a break from touring next year. I have had allergies and chest infections, but if I wasn’t singing it wouldn’t be any bother at all,” he said. “Thank God, I am in good shape. I decided to take a break and plug in for a while.”
O’Donnell had previously announced in May 2025 that he would take an extended break from touring in 2026, citing the physical toll of years on the road. His official statement explained, “This decision was not made lightly, but it is driven by the health challenges he has faced over the past few years, particularly with allergies and recurrent chest infections while touring extensively.”
The statement added that Daniel will continue his commitments until December 2025 but emphasized: “This is not a retirement, but rather a temporary break. This pause is essential for him to recharge and recover.”
Alongside setting the record straight about his health, Daniel took the opportunity to warn fans about fraudulent messages online, urging them to be cautious. “Just be careful, not just about our pages, people are being scammed left, right and centre,” he said. “You need to be so vigilant. Don’t engage with anybody, even if you think it is me that is writing to you. It won’t be me.”
In a lighter moment during the interview, Daniel also ruled out speculation that he might run for President of Ireland once President Michael D. Higgins steps down in November. With a chuckle, he joked: “You can pull that one out of the picture anyway.”
Despite the challenges, Daniel continues to enjoy support from fans across the globe. His temporary withdrawal from the spotlight is being met with understanding, especially given his decades of non-stop performing and his consistent commitment to connecting with fans on stage and through media.
As Daniel O’Donnell prepares to take a well-earned rest, fans can still look forward to his remaining tour dates through the end of 2025—and the promise that his break is only temporary.
