Majella O’Donnell Shares Her Relief After Husband Daniel’s Strictly Exit: “It Feels Like a Weight Has Been Lifted”
DUBLIN, Ireland — Majella O’Donnell has opened up about her relief following her husband Daniel O’Donnell’s departure from Strictly Come Dancing, admitting she’s delighted that the “gruelling experience” has finally come to an end.
The beloved Donegal singer waltzed his way to an exit on Sunday night, marking the end of his whirlwind journey on the popular BBC dance show. While fans were disappointed to see him go, Majella confessed she couldn’t be happier to have him back home — and more relaxed than he’s been in weeks.
“I felt relief, absolutely,” Majella said. “I knew he was finding it tough — the nerves were just killing him. I didn’t go over because I was too nervous myself, so I watched it on the telly.”
After his elimination, Daniel wasted no time in calling his wife to share his feelings. “He phoned me straight away,” she recalled. “He said, ‘Majella, you cannot believe how good it feels to know that I don’t need to do that again. It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.’”
Despite her relief, Majella made it clear she’s incredibly proud of Daniel for stepping so far outside his comfort zone. “He really pushed himself,” she said. “He did it to the best of his ability, and I admire him for that. As always, Daniel handled everything with dignity — but I’m delighted to have him back now.”
While his Strictly adventure may be over, fans won’t have to wait long to see Daniel back on television. His next project, the highly anticipated UTV Ireland series Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip, premieres Monday at 8 p.m.
The heartwarming travel show follows the couple as they journey across Ireland, staying in bed and breakfasts, meeting fans, and discovering the humor and humanity in everyday life. Majella promises the new season will be filled with laughter, charm, and plenty of surprises.
“It’s so funny — we laughed the whole time at the things that were happening,” she said. “I really think people are going to love it and see a side of Daniel they don’t normally get to see — what we’re like together.”
Viewers can expect to see the usually reserved crooner showing off a lighter, more adventurous side. “Daniel is a quiet guy, but he has a great sense of humor,” Majella revealed. “He’s willing to try anything — we went kayaking and paddle boarding, even though Daniel is terrified of the water!”
From the Strictly dance floor to Ireland’s scenic countryside, it’s been a busy year for Daniel O’Donnell. But for Majella, the best part is simple — having her husband back home, smiling, and stress-free.
“Strictly was an experience,” she said with a laugh. “But now, it’s lovely to just have my Daniel back — without the sequins and the nerves.”
