Kelly Osbourne Speaks Out After Dad Ozzy’s Death, Pays Tribute with Poignant Lyrics: ‘I Lost the Best Friend I Ever Had’
Kelly Osbourne is honoring her father, Ozzy Osbourne, with a heartfelt tribute, sharing a poignant lyric from the iconic Black Sabbath song, “Changes”. Just two days after the rock legend’s passing at age 76, Kelly took to her Instagram Stories to reflect on the profound loss, posting a line from the 2003 duet she recorded with Ozzy, which was a reimagined version of the classic track.
“I feel unhappy, I am so sad,” Kelly, 40, wrote on Thursday, July 24, alongside the lyric: “I lost the best friend I ever had.” The 2003 version of “Changes” was not only a deeply personal song for the Osbourne family but also a massive success, hitting No. 1 in the U.K. and making history as the second father-daughter duo to top the charts, after Frank and Nancy Sinatra in 1967.
Originally released by Black Sabbath in 1972, “Changes” reflected Ozzy’s personal struggles and life transitions. The father-daughter duet gave it new life, capturing a unique bond between the pair, and remains one of the most cherished songs in Ozzy’s vast catalog.
Ozzy’s family, including Kelly, Sharon, her brothers Louis and Jack, and her sister Aimee, shared the sad news of his passing with a statement that deeply resonated with fans worldwide. “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the statement read. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
As one of the most influential figures in rock history, Ozzy Osbourne earned the title “The Prince of Darkness” for his electrifying persona and bold contributions to the genre. Yet, beyond his music, Ozzy’s love for his family was equally well-known. The Osbourne family’s reality TV show, The Osbournes (2002–2005), offered a rare glimpse into their home life, showcasing the ups, downs, and quirky moments that made them one of TV’s most beloved families.
Though Ozzy had six children in total — including Jessica and Louis with his first wife Thelma Riley, and Elliot, whom he adopted — it was his relationship with his children from his marriage to Sharon Osbourne that played a central role in his later years. Despite his battle with Parkinson’s disease (which he publicly announced in 2020), Ozzy remained a significant figure in Kelly’s life, even participating in important family moments.
In July 2025, just weeks before his death, Sid Wilson of Slipknot proposed to Kelly during Ozzy’s final concert with Black Sabbath in England. As the emotional moment unfolded backstage, Ozzy jokingly interjected with, “F— off, you’re not marrying my daughter,” showing his protective fatherly instinct — even in the midst of his health challenges. Kelly and Sid welcomed their son Sidney in 2022, and she shared with PEOPLE in May 2024 that she had moved back in with her parents during her pregnancy, as Sid was often on tour. She described the experience as “amazing” and cherished the time spent with her family.
During an interview in May 2025, Kelly spoke fondly of her 2-year-old son Sidney, saying he was “best friends” with Ozzy. “Oh my God, they’re best friends,” she gushed at the 32nd Annual Race to Erase MS Gala. She continued, “Favorite time of the day is nighttime because [Sidney] leaves me and gets in bed with my mom and dad. And they have cartoon time together, and it is the sweetest thing ever…”
Ozzy’s legacy will live on not just in his groundbreaking music but in the deep family connections he fostered. His death leaves a void in the world of rock and roll, but Kelly’s tribute and the love he shared with his family serve as a testament to the lasting impact of his life, both on and off the stage.
